About the Artist:                      

Sandra Ritter's life is a journey of self discovery, expressed through her love of the arts.  Not just a talented painter, illustrator and commercial designer, Sandra's many gifts encompass dance, choreography, acting, teaching and playing the harp.

But it it through her painting that her talent is immediately apparent, even to the untrained eye.  Working in watercolour, acrylic, and oils, each piece is exquisitely and sensitively rendered, characterized by fine detail and expressive attention to light and shadow.  Drawing on the beauty that Sandra sees in the world around her, her work includes wildlife, Vancouver Island coastal scenes, unusual still life studies, whimsical fairies in splendid imaginary settings and dancers captured in a perfect moment in time.  

Sandra has worked as an exhibit artist at the Royal B.C. Museum on the "Open Oceans" and "Rocks, Rigs and Roughnecks" projects and has had work commissioned by Beautiful B.C. Magazine.  She has also produced  works and beautiful murals  (trompe l'oeil) in many private residences.   Rooms come to life as she creates secret gardens, misty classical landscapes, a child's fantasy with animals or fairies, or simply a few wild flowers to accent a corner. Her goal is to enlarge and enhance the space, so that the work complements the rest of the room. The latest of these murals was commissioned by Commonwealth Place, for a room designed for children's programs.  Her work has been exhibited in many galleries throughout the Greater Victoria area.

Sandra lives and works at Victoria's Fisherman's Wharf where  visitors are welcome to step aboard "Waterlight", Sandra's floating studio and gallery.   Sandra teaches classes, and a schedule is found under "CLASSES & WORKSHOPS" on this website.
